Internal exams
Before you start: Prepare a session, subjects, candidate classes and assessment rules. This module handles internal exams; external registration is in Exam management.

1. Create a session and papers
- Open Exams and select the new-session action.
- Enter the session name, type and dates, then Create session.
- Open the session and add each paper with its code, subject, duration and maximum mark.
- Review Papers before scheduling candidates.
What to check: The session contains the papers to be examined.
2. Schedule papers and enter candidates
- Open the session’s Schedule and add a paper’s start/end time, room and invigilation details where available.
- Open Entries and add the intended class or individual candidates.
- Review skipped or rejected entries and any timetable clashes.
- Correct overlapping slots or missing information and retry only the affected entries.
- Open a learner’s exam timetable to confirm their schedule.
What to check: Candidates have valid entries and a consistent personal exam timetable.
3. Capture, submit and moderate marks
- Open Results or the paper’s Marks action.
- Enter marks within the paper’s maximum, or import the available CSV format after checking its columns.
- Save and review missing or invalid marks.
- Select Submit for moderation and confirm.
- An authorised moderator reviews the submitted marks and selects Moderate.
What to check: Marks have progressed through the required review stage.
4. Finalise and inspect statistics
- Confirm that papers, entries and moderation are complete.
- Use the session’s finalise action and review its confirmation.
- Open Statistics to inspect marked counts, averages and pass rates.
- Verify the finalised results appear in the reporting workflow.
- Follow the school’s authorised correction process if finalised marks need amendment.
What to check: Finalised marks are locked against ordinary editing and available to downstream reporting.
